Discover the heart behind Little Homestead Learners, our passion for early education, and the unique, nurturing environment we’ve created for your child in Rolleston, New Zealand.

Our journey to creating Little Homestead Learners

Little Homestead Learners began with a desire to balance creativity, teaching, and family life — while offering tamariki a truly unique early education experience. We imagined a place where small ratios allow learning, exploring, and play to unfold naturally, without rush or pressure. A place where children can follow their curiosity, feel deeply connected, and grow through meaningful, hands‑on experiences.

Set on our lifestyle block, this vision comes to life every day. Tamariki learn through real‑world moments — feeding animals, tending to the garden, exploring wide‑open spaces, and discovering nature at their own pace. These experiences nurture confidence, independence, and a genuine love for discovery.

Little Homestead Learners is built on the belief that childhood should be calm, joyful, and full of opportunities to explore the world around us. Here, learning is woven gently into everyday life, creating a rich foundation for each child’s future.

My approach to teaching and care

At the heart of Little Homestead Learners is an individualised, relationship‑based approach to teaching and care. I believe that truly knowing each child — their strengths, interests, culture, and unique ways of learning — is the foundation for meaningful early education. Building strong, trusting relationships with whānau ensures that learning is connected, consistent, and deeply supportive.

My teaching practice is grounded in respect, responsiveness, and intentionality. I guide tamariki to become responsible, respectful, and confident lifelong learners, supporting them to explore, question, and grow at their own pace. With small ratios and a calm, nature‑rich environment, children have the space and support they need to flourish.

Every day, we create opportunities for rich, hands‑on learning that aligns with the principles of Te Whāriki — empowering tamariki to develop a strong sense of belonging, wellbeing, contribution, communication, and exploration.

A warm and welcoming environment

When you and your child join Little Homestead Learners, you’re welcomed into a warm, nurturing atmosphere that feels like an extension of home. Our small‑group setting in Rolleston means every child is truly known — their personality, their interests, their rhythms, and the little things that make them shine.

Here, tamariki are supported to grow at their own pace, with muddy hands, bright eyes, and full hearts. They have the freedom to explore, the space to be themselves, and the gentle guidance of a kaiako who values connection, curiosity, and calm, meaningful learning.

Little Homestead Learners is a place where childhood feels joyful, grounded, and real — just as it should.
