Our daily adventure

At Little Homestead Learners, each day is a journey of discovery and growth. We've crafted a programme that balances structured learning with free exploration, ensuring every child feels nurtured, engaged, and inspired. Come see what a typical day looks like for our tamariki.

What makes us special

Little Homestead Learners offers a truly unique blend of expertise, environment, and intentional teaching. Set on our peaceful lifestyle block in Rolleston, tamariki enjoy a learning experience that simply can’t be replicated in a centre or town‑based setting.

With my background as a qualified, fully registered teacher — primary trained and immersed in ECE for the past five years — I bring a strong understanding of child development across ages. This means I can support younger tamariki through rich, play‑based learning while also helping older children build confidence and skills for a smooth transition to school.

Our days are enriched with te reo Māori and New Zealand Sign Language, woven naturally into routines, play, and learning conversations. This supports children’s communication, cultural identity, and sense of belonging.

What truly sets us apart is our environment. Tamariki have access to:

  • Large outdoor spaces for running, exploring, and imaginative play

  • Thriving gardens for hands‑on learning, growing kai, and discovering insects

  • Farm life — animals, paddocks, and real‑world experiences that build curiosity and confidence

  • Calm, rural surroundings that support regulation, wellbeing, and unhurried learning

With small ratios, I’m able to offer deeply responsive, individualised care. Learning is intentional, strengths‑based, and guided by the principles of Te Whāriki, ensuring each child’s identity, culture, and interests are honoured.

Little Homestead Learners is a place where tamariki can grow, explore, and thrive — supported by meaningful relationships, rich experiences, and the freedom of a nature‑connected environment.

A typical day for our tamariki

Our day begins with a warm, unhurried welcome as tamariki arrive before 8am. Children are welcome to bring breakfast from home, giving them a calm and familiar start to their morning.

We follow a gentle rhythm throughout the day:

  • 10:00am – Morning tea

  • 12:00pm – Lunch

  • 3:00pm – Afternoon tea

  • 5:00pm – Late snack

Between these times, our learning flows naturally. Both morning and afternoon sessions include intentional, planned teaching based on the interests of our tamariki. Learning is flexible and responsive — we extend ideas, shift direction, and follow child‑led exploration as it unfolds.

Throughout the day, children enjoy:

  • Seamless indoor–outdoor flow

  • Arts and crafts

  • Baking and kai preparation

  • Messy play and water play

  • Hands‑on sensory experiences

We regularly head out onto the farm for walks, where tamariki can visit the animals, explore the gardens, and discover the natural world around them. These moments offer rich opportunities for curiosity, connection, and real‑world learning.

Our daily rhythm is calm, predictable, and deeply grounded in Te Whāriki, ensuring each child feels secure, supported, and free to explore at their own pace.

Flexibility for busy families

We understand that family life can be busy, which is why we offer flexibility in our programme. We cater to children aged 4 months to 6 years, and flexibility in drop-off and pick-up times can be negotiated to suit your family's needs. Our aim is to provide peace of mind for parents, knowing their child is in a nurturing and adaptable environment.
